Partinico, 18 November 2025 – “The 2025 harvest did not go well, it went very well! – comments Diego Cusumano, Sicilian winemaker, owner together with his brother Alberto of the company of the same name, one of the most recognized labels in Italy and abroad, who continues – It is obvious that every producer always speaks well of his product: a bit like asking the innkeeper if the wine is good, but this year nature has given us an incredible harvest, extraordinary as it has been a long time since we have seen any” confirms the Sicilian entrepreneur enthusiastically, who continues “At a time when the situation, not only economic, international is definitely much more than uncertain and hysterical, nature – once again – extends its hand to us and gives us this gift, which gives us strength and hope to look to the imminent future with optimism”.
Meanwhile, Istat export data, updated to August 2025, show a decrease of -1.9% in value and -2.9% in volume compared to the same period in 2024; a negative result to which exports to the USA, the first country for purchases of Italian wine, obviously contribute, where exports fell from 132.4 million euros in August 2024 to 92.5 million euros in August this year, with a collapse in value of about -30% (while in volumes the drop is -2.2% compared to 2024)
“The tariffs, which have generated great uncertainty at the macroeconomic level, have also led to a small slowdown as far as we are concerned. However, – underlines Cusumano – only in value, but we have not lost the market. In fact, the quantities sold that our importers make on the US market still record a positive figure, which shows that Made in Italy is irreplaceable in the eyes of American consumers”.
So this Trumpian tariff, according to the Sicilian entrepreneur, is just a moment that the market will automatically metabolize. And it will overcome. By when? “I believe that the duties will be metabolized during 2026 and, slowly, importers will increase their sales expectations, increasing imports,” Cusumano crosses his fingers.
